The city of Lindsborg has been welcoming to KWAA conference attendees for over 25 years. Bethany College has opened its doors to KWAA during that time as well, hosting the CLEs and keynote speakers on its campus and providing delicious meals to conference attendees. Located in the middle of Kansas, Lindsborg is a wonderful place for attorneys across the state to gather for KWAA's annual conference.

If you've never been to Lindsborg, you will be pleasantly surprised by what this little town has to offer.

Lindsborg offers a charming shopping experience, with boutique shops including antiques, fair-trade, clothing, and art. Conference attendees are given free time to enjoy some fabulous shopping and local merchants go all out with late hours and wine and snacks.  The town graciously welcomes us every year.

Conference attendees can wake up early to run a 5k from Coronado Heights to Bethany College on the second day of the conference. Others choose to walk inside Lindsborg's city limits. Others choose to sleep in until right before breakfast and the first CLE.

The Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery at Bethany College is a wonderful place to view artwork by Lindsborg's very own Birger Sandzen along with other travelling exhibitions from all over the world.

Conference attendees often find themselves kicking back at the Ol' Stuga or one of the other local establishments in town that provide a welcoming and rustic atmosphere.

Lindsborg is home to beautiful 19th and 20th Century Victorian homes and is known for its Swedish history. Many conference attendees walk away with a hand-carved Swedish Dala Horse.

KWAA prides itself on its nationally recognized keynote speakers, who present and then join attendees for a reception and even a beer at the local bar. Past speakers include:

  • Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist
  • Deanell Reece Tacha, Dean of Pepperdine Law School & fomer Tenth Circuit Chief Judge
  • Gail Collins, New York Times columnist
  • Sharon Ellison, Director, Institute for Powerful Non-Defensive Communication
  • Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize winning columnist
  • Susan Estrich, Fox News commentator

Perhaps the thing that sets this conference apart most is the low key and effortless networking. Many judges attend and participate in the socializing. Participants are encouraged to come hungry and ready for a good time, whether that means kicking back and relaxing or kicking off your dancing shoes.

Events include:

  • Law School receptions prior to the keynote address where law school alums can touch base.
  • Reception with keynote speaker at the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery.
  • Friday night dinner and social with a tasty buffet, cash bar, dancing, silent auction, and a photo booth. The Jennie Mitchell Kellogg Attorney of Achievement Award is announced at this event.
  • Less formal networking at the Ol Stuga and other local bars or hotel pools.

The conference includes a silent auction, with items and baskets donated by local women attorney organizations and artistically talented members of KWAA.

KWAA's annual conference offers high quality continuing legal education.

Among others, Judge Steve Leben has called the Lindsborg conference CLE “the best CLE in the state.” Examples are an annual update on appellate cases from the judges who authored the opinions, point-counterpoint formats on hot issues of the day, presentations by seasoned attorneys about how to build a practice, interactive ethics exercises, out of town speakers including judges, and professors speaking on cutting edge legal issues.

Dress code is affirmatively casual. Although some do like to dress up in business casual wear or cocktail dresses for the dinner and social on Friday evening.
